This has been an issue especially since the mid-day (9-3) low use hours rates were cancelled. I have written to Translink in the past with no success. As a daycare we have found it frustrating that we can’t teach children to use transit because frankly our 15 passenger Van is less expensive to use.

This seems such a no-brainer we should all be surprised it’s even an issue. Why put barriers up in our children’s education? Our children are our future – anything we can do to support them, especially those with fewer options, we should be doing.

Trip Ed is a great idea and you’ve got my support.

I fully support Trip Ed. Public transit needs to be accessible and affordable to ALL youth. Kids need to feel that they are a vital part of our multicultural and dynamic city. They need to see other parts of the city. This means getting out, away from their computers, and into the real world. Kids should feel comfortable hopping on buses and skytrain. We have amazing events going on every day in Metro Vancouver and kids can’t get to them because schools and families don’t have the budget for expensive public transit.

To campaign across interest groups to lobby for a yearly $10 TripEd transit pass which would be available for purchase by schools, child care centres, organized youth sports teams, summer camps etc., which will allow a group (class) of children with their adult supervisors to use transit for educational trips where public transit exists (e.g. the Lower Mainland). The pass is to be subsidized through the auspices of the Ministry of Education, School Boards, Municipalities and their partners including Translink, BCCPAC and others.
